Handmade Chinese Fabric Applique Art
A one-of-a-kind textile artwork. Once sold, it cannot be recreated.
The Humen coastal battery stands guard in fabric form — layers of deep indigo, gunmetal grey, and aged brass tones evoke the weathered fortifications.
The Humen coastal battery once guarded the Pearl River Delta — the gateway to Guangzhou and one of the most strategically important waterways in southern China. Built during the Qing Dynasty, these fortifications witnessed the Opium Wars and the changing tides of Chinese history.
This fabric artwork captures the fortress in moody indigos and deep greys, evoking the weathered stone and the weight of history that these walls still carry.
Built with moody indigo cotton, textured grey linen, and touches of aged brass-colored silk. The fortress walls are constructed with precise rectangular fabric cuts, layered to echo the stone masonry. The sea at the base uses wavy-cut fabric strips for movement.
Complements a home office, library, or hallway with a sense of place and history. A subtle, contemplative piece that rewards close looking. Also meaningful as a tribute to Guangdong heritage.
Because every fabric piece is selected, cut, and stitched by hand, the same artwork can never be recreated exactly. Small differences in fabric texture, color, and hand stitching make each piece unique.
